As we say goodbye to September, we turn our heads to October and with arms wide open we say, “Welcome October!” excited as kids eager to see what’s in the goody bag. Well let’s burst it open shall we? First up, October is celebrated worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in St. Kitts & Nevis we are no exception. There are a number of groups actively involved in the awareness promotion and assist persons with this disease. Reach for Recovery SKB Breast Cancer Support Group, Essence of Hope, Pink Lily and St. Kitts and Nevis Breast Cancer Foundation. We look forward to your activities.
Secondly, October is also recognized as Financial Information Month throughout the region and is an initiative spearheaded by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB). Each year in October, the ECCB and other partner institutions implement projects to educate communities about making good financial decisions. This year the theme is L.E.A.D (Learn Empower Achieve Develop), among the number of events will be a Business Symposium and Innovation Forum on Thursday 8th October at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium. Additionally, there will be a sports meet on Saturday 10th October at the Lime Sporting Grounds. Talk about making finances fun, right?
Last, but not least, we have the ever exciting Latin Festival set to take place from the 19th – 25th October 2015. Come discover your Latin side! A week of activities includes of arts, dance, film, music, and it all leads up to the grand event on 25th October. This grand finale will be an evening showcasing the multi-cultural relationship between St. Kitts & Nevis, and the Latin American countries. Now in its 6th year, Latin Festival has grown to become a part of our annual celebrations, one which has experienced considerable growth with each year. I have personally attended that past fiestas and I look forward to what see excitement this year brings, Arriba!!!
